September 19, 2007- Final Guitar Hero III Playlist makes unofficial release
While not yet confirmed by Activision, this final playlist has been leaked on the internet and features more songs than ever before
seen for this anticipated upcoming October 21st release. The list also includes the order of the songs as well as the always loved
encore tracks you can open up. Check out if your favorite songs are included below.
October 4, 2007- Downloadable songs as well as new guitar info with only weeks before release of Guitar Hero III
Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3 versions will include online multiplayer while 360 and PS3 versions additionally include downloadable tracks
for a fee.
Activion also confirmed new wireless guitar controllers for each platform including a Gibson Les Paul for the Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3,
and a Gibson Kramer for PS2. The Wii controller supports rumble as gamers will insert the Wii Remote into the body of the faux
guitar.
October 21, 2007-
Activision announced yesterday that Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock will feature some of the world’s most influential musical
instrument and equipment manufacturers including Gibson, Guitar Center Audio-Technica, Crate, Ernie Ball, Krank, Line 6, Mackie
and Zildjian. In addition to these industry alliances, Activision also announced strategic partnerships with Pontiac and Axe, which
appear in Guitar Hero 3. Get your copy of GH3 Below!
November 8, 2007- Guitar Hero Makes Starring Appearance on South Park-
South Park this week had the normal set of characters, with one new character in a starring role,
Guitar Hero. The story line took Stan and Kyle from the rigors of becoming guitar hero's to their egos
swelling and producer pressure forcing the band to break up. Soon after Stan kicks Kyle to the curb
he is enticed by the one thing that brings down a lot of guitar hero’s, Heroin Hero. Chasing the pink
dragon Stan can never catch, leaves him empty and shell of the former rockstar he once was. He
hits bottom with a poor show, and is soon looking at ReHab Hero, but instead decides to right his
life himself and get back together with Kyle. They reunite and remember why they originally started
to play in the first place, the love of the game.

November 26, 2007- The Romantics Sue Guitar Hero Publisher Activision
The band has sued Activision for their use of the bands song What I like About You, in their recently
released Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80’s.
The suit specifies that it is not to do with copyright, which Activision Producers properly secured before
release, but rather due to the proximity of the cover version to their real version. Obtaining the rights to
use the song lets you record a cover version, but not the actual recording of the song.
The Romantic’s attorney William Horton said Activision should have secured a master license for the
Romantics' original 1980 recording, then paid appropriate royalties.

"It's a very good imitation, and that's our objection," said Troy attorney William Horton. "Even the guys in the band said, 'Wow, that's
not us, but it sure sounds like us.'"
The band is also seeking an injunction against the game, which could take the bestseller out of stores during the middle of the
holiday shopping rush.
The legitimacy of the case is still in question as there is no precedent in regards to this issue in terms of video games. Similar
cases have been won by Bette Midler and Tom Waits for the use of similar sounding recordings of themselves for commercials.
The question is whether or not the use of a song in a video game carries the same connotation of approval for a product as a
commercial might.
Horton would not put a specific figure on potential money awards for the Romantics, which would likely be based on the number of
Guitar Hero Encore units sold to date. The game, like the other three Guitar Hero titles, topped U.S. sales charts when it was
released.
"The sales of this game are huge," said Horton. "We're all for good commerce. We just want to share in it."
November 12, 2007- Guitar Hero makes a cameo on The Simpsons
Days after appearing on South Park, Guitar Hero made an appearance on Americas
other favorite animated prime time show, The Simpsons.
While the part was much smaller, and only included a couple seconds of airtime, it
truly goes to show the extent that Guitar Hero is a pop phenomenon.
December 17, 2007- Punishment Sell Off of Guitar Hero III Nets Dad $9,100 on eBay
A father who bought the highly sought after Guitar Hero III for the Wii for $90 was thrown for quite a surprise when he came home a
few days ago.
"Then, yesterday, I came home from work early and what do I find? My innocent little boy smoking pot in the back yard with two of his
delinquent friends."
In response the father,a school teacher who has kept his identity private, placed the game on eBay as punishment. The bidding
reached $9,100 before an Australian man won the elusive game.
However, the father said his son wouldn't go without any presents this year.
"I am still considering getting him a game for his Nintendo. Maybe something like Barbie as the Island Princess or Dancing with the
Stars ... I know he will just love them," the father said, tongue-in-cheek.
January 8, 2008-
Slash and Bill Gates Rock out on Guitar Hero III at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Vegas
Former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash
performed the band's classic "Welcome to the
Jungle" at the end of Bill Gates' final Consumer
Electronics Show keynote speech before
retiring from Microsoft on Sunday, January 6, in
Las Vegas, Nevada.
The speech officially kicked off CES in Las
Vegas on Sunday night. Near the end of the
speech Gates was challenged by Microsoft's
president of entertainment and devices, Robbie
Bach, to a game of Guitar Hero 3. Before either
could get out their plastic axes and take it to
each other, each player brought out their ace.
Bach brought out ringer - Kelly (TipperQueen)
Law-Yone (A Guitar Hero 3 Champion), who
kicked it off with the opening notes of Welcome
to the Jungle by Guns 'N Roses.
Gates, never to be trumped, went to the source
and brought in Slash, the longtime guitarist of
G&R who played the real thing on his Les Paul
through a pair of amps.

February 17, 2008- Guitar Hero Aerosmith- Releases Summer 2008
It has been announced that a Guitar Hero Aerosmith Edition will be released in Summer 2008. More details were not immediately
available, but the idea reportedly came from Aerosmoith band member Joe Strummer. Joe said while playing the original Guitar Hero
game he became aware that none of their tracks were on the game.
This is great news for all of us Aerosmith fans who have wanted a more robust selection while we rock out.
Gibson’s statement read that it sued the retailers "to protect its intellectual property and will continue
to do so against any other person in accordance with the law and its rights." Gibson claims a patent
they filed in 1999, covered technology meant to simulate a musical performance, and is infringed
upon through the game play of Activision’s Guitar Hero.
While there suit is being carried out, Activision has begun a suit to declare Gibson’s patent invalid
on the grounds that by waiting 3 years to raise their claim, Gibson had “granted an implied license
for any technology.”
Vicarious Visions, a subsidiary of Activision, created "Guitar Hero" for the Nintendo Wii and
announced last week that it is working on another version of the game for the Nintendo DS.

March 9, 2007 - Trying Out Rock Band
I felt like a bit of a traitor trying out Rock Band, but I had to see if the Guitar
Hero skills convert. They do, for some of it.
The best part about this game is the ability to play with as many as 3
other people on various instruments. I thought I would try out the drums
and found this to be a whole new beast as we rocked through classics
like Nirvana's In Bloom, and Say it Ain't So by Weezer.
While the ability to start a band and go on tour is similar to Guitar Hero,
this takes on some new twists with the possibility of a singer, drummer,
and person on Bass Guitar as well.

May 23, 2008 - Guitar Hero IV Promo Page Suggests
at Things to Come
The Guitar Hero 4 Promo page seems to be hinting at a few huge
changes with the new game. The inclusion of the drum set is the
first. An obvious move that has been spoken about before, but the
addition of the drum set will take away the one large advantage I
see in the Rock Band series.
The other interesting development is the guitar pictured with
several more buttons than the current editions. Looks like a lot of
us will have to keep practicing to reach our expert levels with the
jump from 5 to what looks like as many as 10 buttons. While I
would be pretty amazed at 10 keys on the new game, even the
addition of 1 or 2 would add a whole new element to the game and
make even seasoned pros start to sweat.
I see a lot of people sitting in their living room saying "How the hell
do you reach key 7?!" in the near future.
July 3, 2008 Guitar
Hero Aerosmith has
taken the video
game world by
storm-
Not only have sales for
the video game
skyrocketed since the
release, but Aerosmith
CD sales have also
increased. It's really a
win win for the band,
which is why I'm not
suprised by the workings
on the next installment:
Metallica, and the rumors
that a Van Halen version
is in the mix!
March 23, 2008 - Guitar Maker Sues Retailers Over Guitar Hero Technology Patent
There seems to be another legal battle brewing over the use of intellectual property on Guitar Hero. This time the fight comes from
Gibson Guitar Inc. who is suing many of the major retailers, including Target and Walmart to stop selling the many editions of the
Guitar Hero franchise.
September 9, 2008 Metallica Joins the Ranks of Guitar Hero's
Metallica's Death Magnetic is coming to Guitar Hero III on Friday the 12th of September, the same day as the release of the studio
album.
The new download will include all 10 tracks from their new album and will be compatible with the new Guitar Hero World Tour out in
October.
The new download will cost $18.
